Hudson Valley Community Power is a partnership between six communities (Beacon, Cold Spring, Marbletown, Philipstown, the Town of Fishkill, and the City of Poughkeepsie), who have teamed with JouleCommunity (as Program Administrator) and Hudson Valley Energy (as Local Organizer), to explore the potential of participating in a Community Choice energy program in the Hudson Valley.
Under a Community Choice energy program, the municipality works with the Program Administrator to identify Program priorities and solicit proposals from qualified energy supply companies on behalf of their residents and small businesses.
To empower residents and businesses in the Hudson Valley to access carbon-free energy at a price that is lower than they currently pay for electricity.
To bring Community Choice and Community Solar to the Hudson Valley
What is Community Power?
Community Power is a concept and a toolbox which is all about POWER: It refers to energy, decision-making authority and autonomy in the hands of communities and not the state.
Community Power exists to ensure that even the smallest communities are equipped with the legislative framework and tools in the long-term to be active leaders in the broader clean energy transition. The tools that Hudson Valley Community Power will be using in the short to medium term are Community Choice and Community Solar programs.
